Award Type: Associate in Arts
The music major fulfills lower-division requirements for students planning to transfer to a four-year college or university culminating in employment in the areas of music teaching, music performance and many other related fields of the music industry. In addition, the associate in arts degree will benefit those students seeking employment in the commercial music industry (e.g. merchandising, club-date performance, recording, church music positions, public recreation departments, private teaching). All music majors are required to take one performance class each semester.The graduate of the Associate in Arts in Music will:
- Analyze and notate music using traditional Western music notation, theory and harmony.
- Perform as a member of an instrumental or vocal ensemble.
- Recognize and describe the key figures and the breadth of achievement in Western music history.
