Family and Consumer Science: Interior Design Merchandising
Award Type: Certificate of Achievement
The associate degree and certificate program in interior design merchandising prepares students to transfer to universities and technical schools of interior design and for immediate employment as specialty store salespersons, design product representatives, or owners and managers of their own businesses. Students integrate design principles, textile characteristics and personal style with marketing strategies to create and present projects and a portfolio tailored to their chosen career. Job opportunities include store buyer or manager, interiors consultant, interiors promotion and sales representatives.The graduate of the Certificate of Achievement in Family and Consumer Science: Interior Design Merchandising will:
- Integrate fashion principles with respect to industry changes and marketing strategies and present project.
- Analyze textile characteristics for sensory appeal and present project.
- Create a portfolio and project using interior design elements and principles by selecting color and furniture combinations and placements which achieve the desired interior character and effect.
- Compare and contrast various types of window treatments, wall coverings, soft and hard surface floor coverings, paints, glass, metals, plastics, woods, fabrics and lighting fixtures. See business department for Business SLO’s (BUS 102 & 103).
