Transfer Studies UC/CSU (Math, Engineering, and Science Majors)

Students who wish to pursue this certificate will choose from the general education pattern below: General Education Patterns A. California State University General Education/Breadth (CSU GE) 39-40 units B. Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) 34-37 units Courses in which students will select in the natural science and mathematics area will emphasize the natural sciences which examine the physical universe, its life forms and its natural phenomena. Courses in mathematics emphasize the development of mathematical and quantitative reasoning skills beyond the level of intermediate algebra. Students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the methodologies of science as investigative tools. Students will also examine the influence that the acquisition of scientific knowledge has on the development of the world’s largest civilizations. Students wishing to transfer in Math, Engineering and Science majors are strongly advised to meet with a counselor to develop a student education plan to ensure a smooth transfer process. The Transfer Studies Certificate of Achievement is designed for students who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university. In order to meet specific transfer requirements, students should work with a counselor in course selection.The graduate of the Certificate of Achievement in Transfer Studies UC/CSU (Math, Engineering, and Science Majors) will:
- Develop mathematical and quantitative reasoning skills beyond the level of intermediate algebra.
- Demonstrate an ability to think logically and critically in solving problems; explaining conclusions; and evaluating, supporting or critiquing the thinking of others.
- Understand the acts and principles which form the foundations of living and non-living systems.
- Understand experimental methodology, the testing of hypothesis, the power of systematic questioning and the influence of the scientific method on the world’s civilizations.
