Award Type: Associate in Arts for Transfer
The Associate in Arts in Communication Studies for Transfer provides students with an opportunity to improve their personal, public and professional lives. Students study communication dynamics in interpersonal relationships, groups, and public settings. By studying how, why and with what consequences people communicate, students will become more competent communicators. Students will develop broad-based competencies in oral and written communication as well as critical analysis. The Associate in Arts in Communication Studies for Transfer will prepare students for further studies toward a California State University (CSU) baccalaureate degree in speech and/or communication studies. Associate Degree for Transfer Requirements Completion of 60 semester units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University. including the following: a) Completion of the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or the California State University General Education-Breadth (CSU GE). b) A minimum of 18 units in a major or area of emphasis as determined by the community college district. c) Obtainment of a minimum grade point average of 2.0 with all courses in the major being completed with a grade of “C” or better.The graduate of the Associate in Arts for Transfer in Communication Studies will:
- Demonstrate knowledge of communication theories.
- Demonstrate competent communication behaviors for a variety of purposes.
- Be able to locate, synthesize, evaluate and utilize research.
