Award Type: Associate in Science for Transfer

The associate in science in biology for transfer program prepares students to move into a curriculum in a California State University, as well as other four-year institutions leading to a baccalaureate degree in such areas as botany, zoology, conservation and teaching. The biologist with a baccalaureate degree is prepared to enter graduate or professional programs of specialized study such as medicine, dentistry, medical technology, osteopathy and veterinary medicine. Associate Degree for Transfer Requirements Completion of 60 semester units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University. including the following: a) Completion of the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or the California State University General Education-Breadth (CSU GE). b) A minimum of 18 units in a major or area of emphasis as determined by the community college district. c) Obtainment of a minimum grade point average of 2.0 with all courses in the major being completed with a grade of “C” or better.

The graduate of the Associate in Science for Transfer in Biology will:

  • Demonstrate proficient research skills in data gathering and analysis.
  • Demonstrate effective communication using the language, concepts and models of biology.
  • Demonstrate effective content knowledge of biodiversity.

Complete the following:

a) Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) for STEM - 31 units, or

b) CSU General Education Breadth (CSU GE) for STEM - 33 units

Double Counting:
A maximum of 10 units can be double counted for the major and IGETC for STEM general education.  A maximum of 9 units may be double counted for the major and CSU GE for STEM units.

Complete additional CSU transferrable courses as needed to achieve 60 units required for the degree - 2 units
