Core Custody Academy

Award Type: Certificate of Accomplishment

The Core Custody Academy is designed to satisfy State of California Standards and Training for Corrections (STC) requirements for students wanting to be hired as a custody officer by a law enforcement agency or currently employed as such.Core refers to the description of the job as it relates to the overall mission of the adult corrections officer job and its place in the criminal justice system and from the statewide job analysis research conducted periodically by the STC program of the California Board of State and Community Corrections. The Core Academy is an intensive college course with para-military discipline. Students attending the academy will be physically challenged and faced with solving complex problems in a stressful, disciplined and structured environment. Recruits receive basic training in many phases of custody of prisoners. Students will understand the roles and functions of the adult criminal justice system and its processes and demonstrate problem solving strategies for addressing criminal behavior in a custody setting, family, demonstrate problem solving strategies for addressing criminal behavior in a custody setting.

The graduate of the Certificate of Accomplishment in Core Custody Academy will:

  • Understand the roles and functions of the adult criminal justice system and its processes and demonstrate problem solving strategies for addressing criminal behavior in a custody setting.

Program Requirements

A total of 13.5 units is required for the certificate.
